“When a horn is pressed to his lips, he shoots flames.”—The Guardian
Trombone Shorty’s explosion out of New Orleans and into the mainstream was inevitable. Building his embouchure from an early age, the trombone genius, who switches to trumpet with no lost velocity, appeared on stage with Bo Diddley at four years old and was performing with fellow Crescent City native Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra by the time he was 13. Since then, he and his band have played the Grammys, appeared regularly in the HBO hit series Treme, and performed at the White House with music royalty such as B.B. King, Mick Jagger, Booker T. Jones, and others. Shorty was recently signed to the esteemed Blue Note Records. His band, Orleans Avenue, is a volcanic fusion of funk, rock, and hip-hop that launches Shorty’s Frenchman Street force into the uncharted beyond.
